Ambitious about AI, serious about balance

Today I had long conversations with two friends, and have been thinking about them all day…

In recent years I've witnessed AI reshaping the design, and engineering landscape daily. At rates that were previously considered impossible. Tasks, features, even entire apps that once took weeks, or months to build now flow from a single well-crafted prompt, with a bit of polish, if necessary. It's mind-blowing, yet unnerving. Today it's an orchestra of agents building software, and apps… If robots are folding laundry tomorrow and autonomously building cars, or are assigned as caregivers next, what remains uniquely human?

While I'm in awe at what I can build with AI, I'm equally concerned. Across industries: software, design, automotive, robotics, healthcare… we may be moving faster than humanity's ability to thoughtfully regulate and adapt as a society. This has been an ever-increasing risk, and we need a societal framework that keeps people purposeful and valued, even as AI accelerates. Especially with advancements in robotics.

I'm certainly not anti-progress… I'm actively working on improving AI for millions of developers at work every day, and use AI to build apps myself… But I'm pro-balance. As an industry, we shouldn't wait for hindsight. We should actively shape a future where AI is amplifying human capabilities, creativity, and civilizational progress without eroding human purpose.

I definitely believe in AI's potential. But I'd be lying if I said it doesn't also make me question what the next decade with AI looks like.

We should be ambitious about innovation, and equally serious about the societal consequences of that ambition.
